Welcome Ely, I do really think that the spiritual brasilian syncretism
can be a very strong source of inspiration. To answer your questions.
Core Transformation and Aligned Self are the same process labelled
under different names.
The CT process is thoroughly explained into small chunks in the book:

Core Transformation,
--------------------
Reaching the Wellspring Within,
Connirae Andreas with Tamara Andreas (her sister)
1994, Real People Press
ISBN 0-911226-32-X

Can be found in US at http://www.nlpinfo.com

As we are currently running a french translation of the book, I have
read it several times and I can recommend it. There is also a spanish
translation but I don't know whether there is a portuguese one.
I guess the Andreas have also produced audio and video tapes.

To read the mailing list archive you'll have to download files at

ftp://users.aol.com/addictnlp/

nlp-addi.txt is the text file archive
nlp-addi.zip is the zipped (compressed) file archive (at least twice smaller)

The name is swish, it's an usual NLP technique to give up an habit. It works
at the behavior level and can't have any effect at the identity or spiritual
level, can't it ?
As a very powerful self-help technique Core Transformation could be very
useful for yourself. I guess you could do a lot of other things as anchoring
the internal state of feeling "the fire in your lungs" and using this
anchor to be connected with this internal state. I don't have much
experience dealing with smoking so I guess that anyone else out there
would be more experienced and will help you.

Be well,
