Re: Addiction : a definition
Hi all,
For several weeks, I have been thinking about
a definition of Addiction and about what is
addiction ? and what is not ?
I guess the issue is that if we are considering
addictions from a behavioral or a substance point
of view, we can find either lots of counter-examples
either lots of nonsense.
examples:
- substances: we are all addicted to water, we need it
we can't stay more than a couple of days without drinking...
Are we addicted to water ?
- behaviors: everynight most of us use to take off their
clothes, go to bed and sleep. What an obsessive behavior !
Are we addicted to sleep ?
In other words, most of us are fully able to notice
whether or not someone is an addict but if we are trying
to explain to someone else how were we able to make this
distinction, our words don't sound very convincing.
So I'm asking to you all to write your own definition of
addiction in a way that we could discuss about all the
distinctions.. I hope we could find out a very precise
definition of addiction.
Be well,
----
