Re: Addictions structures
Here is the following of my previous post
about addictions structures and MPD.
(MPD : Multiple Personality Disorder)
It's very interested to notice how could MPD
be set up by someone. According to our experience
with patient and litterature, MPD is most of the
time set up as a protective strategy to avoid
a too big suffering during a very traumatic
experience.
I remember a classic case of a young 7 girl being
raped in her bedroom by her uncle. To avoid feeling
the horror of the situation her 'conscious mind' went
out of her body into a doll's body sitting on a shelf
on the opposite wall of the bedroom. When she was
remembering the scene, all her memories were stored
as she had seen what had happened through the doll's eyes.
She had been a kind of witness.
In such cases the dissociation or disconnection between
the visual experience and the kinesthetic experience is
so important that it will last in the day to day life.
The person can live for years in their 'visual mind' being
only aware of very small kinesthetic inputs.
When such persons enconter a psychotropic substance, they
generally discover the hidden part of themself. That's a
tremendous revelation, they litteraly feel things again,
they are aware of their body, of all these previously
left apart kinesthetic inputs... That's the reason why
as I wrote it previously, they become addicted at once,
on the spot. The substance is definetely their key to
switch from one state to another.
More important, they will discover day after day, they
are becoming more and more effective in different areas
of their lives when using their substance. At this powerful
step of the addiction process nobody has a chance to convince
them that becoming again clean and sober has any value.
More important is the dissociation and the disconnection
between the two states, more important will be the amnesia
phenomenon. I have two cases from our patients in mind:
- The first one was a crook, a very efficient one, he used
to scare shopkeepers threatening them to be prosecuted
by the tax administration and offering them an opportunity
to avoid it. He was making lots of money, doing his job
with cold calls, playing different characters and so on...
Once a month, after several weeks of hard work he used to
become more and more nervous and go to a bar to drink
several cups of cofee then several beers... and nothing else
he could remember for several days until he were suddenly
conscious again in another bar, in another city, giving
banknotes to people around him and offering drinks to
everybody in the bar !!!
- The second one was a worker in a bakery and he used to spend
his weekends drinking and being so amnesic of what could
happen that he used to buy all the newspapers on the monday
morning, to check whether he could had committed any of the crimes
described in the news...!!!
In these two examples they didn't need to have a lot of drinks,
they drunk compulsively until they reached the switch point
where they could go in their 'other mind'. We could say they
loosed control and that's what's usually said about such
behavior but IMHO I'm still thinking they are switching to
another life mostly opposite of their 'normal' (sober) life.
Apologizes for all the time I took to write this.
Be well,
