Useful yet annoying behaviors
I recently spent 3 sessions totalling about 5 hours with a person who had
previously been abusing drugs and alcohol. One of the behaviors that he
wanted changed was a sort of selective agoraphobia - whan he wanted to go out
of the house for reasons other than to go to work, he would get very anxious
and the left side of his face would become quite tense and he would feel
dizzy or lightheaded. (not a great state for driving a car!)
After my work with him, he was able to deal with going out without these
behaviors, except when he was going to be around others using drugs or
alcohol. It seemed to me that without an alternative system for alerting
himself to the potential hazards of those situations, I shouldn't assist him
in changing the behavior. So I proceeded to use hypnosis to suggest to him
that he find other activities and people to spend time with socially. Any
similar experiences or suggestions?
