This reference should provide a doorway to a wealth of information
on EMDR to anyone who is interested. A lengthy and up-to-date
bibliography should be obtainable upon request.

Don't know if Shapiro came by the technique from Robert Dilts or
the other way around. Shapiro claims that she discovered it when
she noticed that her own disturbing memories and negative self-talk
were permanently and positively altered when she held them in
consciousness while she self-induced rapid saccadic eye movements.
She then tried it out on friends, acquaintances, and finally her
patients who were suffering from various trauma-related anxieties
and found similar positive results. I have no way of knowing whether
this claim is valid but I have no reason to doubt it.

Regarding Dennis Strain's question about whether EMDR might be related
to Sports Vision Training, I've never heard of Sports Vision Training,
but would like to find out more about it. I do know that EMDR is
being used with athletes in California. The instructor at my EMDR
certification class said it was being used with golfers and other
athletes to help them improve their performance and that they were
getting good results with it. I don't know of any published studies
about this, but, again, the EMDR Institute should be able to provide
that information.
