Re: Golf Experiment
Dave DiRito has been experimenting with improving his golf. This week my
son was due to play a round of golf (he was playing with some experienced
golfers and wanted to look 'respectable') and asked if I could help.
Dave's use of EMDR had seemed promising and (not being a golfer myself) I
thought maybe I could give the idea a try. Dave then reported limited
success so I decided to try a slightly different approach.
I like mixing things around and trying various approaches so I tried the
following.
(Prerequisite was that my son watch a professional - since the Dunhill was
on TV this was quite easy)
In Trance
1 Watch professional play 18 holes
2 Associate into professional. Play 18 holes, paying attention to K's, club
choice
3 Play 18 holes as self (Dissociating when needed to adjust the shot).
4 Play 100 holes very fast.
5 Future pace
6 Reinforcement of learnings when coming out of trance.
[To avoid being in trance for the 'real' length of time required to complete
all this some time distortion was used :)]
Result. 10% improvement with a fine front nine. He also reported that he
'didn't need to think' about which club to use. Interestingly the more
experienced golfers had 'bad' days!
The main differences between this and Dave's approach are:-
a) Formal trance
b) Association into professional. (A bit like compelling future and 'As if')
c) Dissociating as self to adjust (Responding to criticism approach)
The idea of 'associating' into the professional was to build confidence.
I wonder if adding EMDR would make further improvements as Dave reported
that at least one shot was very good?
