I would suggest taking a look at a web page at
http://www.instatek.com/nlp

The page is a collection of stuff Carmine Baffa has written over the
past year or so that has been posted to Usenet and that has been sent
to various friends of his via email. Carmine is an exquisite learner
and in my experience is able to do exactly what you are wanting to do
better than anyone I know. The page contains lots of his beliefs about
NLP, learning and supporting strategies. I highly recommend taking a
look.
